Production per Visit

What each patient appointment is worth to your practice.

Production per visit is your total production divided by the number of patient visits. It tells you the average value of each appointment.

How to calculate it

Total net production ÷ total patient visits.

What's a good number?

For general practices, this typically ranges from $250–$500 per visit. Specialists often run higher. What matters most is the trend. is it going up or down? A declining production per visit might mean you're seeing more low-value appointments or your treatment mix is shifting.

Why it matters

You can increase revenue two ways: see more patients or get more value from each visit. This metric tells you whether the second lever is working. It's also a good proxy for treatment mix. are you doing more high-value procedures or mostly prophys?

How to track it

Divide production by visit count from your PMS. Denta calculates this per provider so you can see which doctors are producing more per chair hour.
